| The
Vocalist Studio™ is a company of contemporary
vocalists who share a common technique, and practice
one of the most innovative approaches to training
singers available today. 21st Century vocal techniques,
united with a method that embraces technology and
training on a live stage, makes The Vocalist Studio
one of the leading training facilities for the modern
vocalist in the world today.
Too many voice studios are not teaching what students
really want to learn. Simply stated, 16th century
voice techniques and methods do not prepare the student
for 21st century genres and applications. This disconnect
is a huge problem in the world of voice pedagogy for
so many people who wish to study a legitimate technique
that applies to the modern form.

Rock/Metal Coach
Expert in Training Passagio Bridging & Head Voice
Development.
The Technique:
TVS trains vocal athletes. Our technical agenda is
strongly founded on helping the student to develop
new levels of strength and coordination that will
build a new “singing voice” that gives
singers unbelievable endurance and capabilities. This
technique enables our students to expand range to
4-5 octaves, develop unique power and master the skills
of “bridging & connecting.” Bridging
is the ability to seamlessly sing from the lower “chest”
voice to the upper “head” voice with no
perceived “break” between the two voices.
The Passagio, commonly referred to as “the break”,
represents the most challenging area of voice development
for all singers. No other skill set in singing is
fraught with more frustration or more joy, then the
ability, or inability to bridge the Passagio. TVS
is supreme in its expertise and understanding on how
to train this mission critical skill.
Drilling workouts builds some of the most powerful
and versatile voices in the business. TVS trained
singers never “pull chest”, do not fatigue
easily and never experience gripping in the throat
or laryngeal regions. TVS singers enjoy an “out
of body” experience when singing with super-human
capabilities, yet feel no physical resistance or strain.
The sounds below are referred to as vocal “applications”
and they are the sounds that modern musical genre’s
require.
- Seamlessly
Bridging the Passagio or “The Break.”
(So the upper voice and lower voice are one)
- Hyper-Extending
Vocal Range to 4-5 Octaves
- Adduction
in the Head Registers
(Replacing Falsetto with Full-Voiced Tone)
- High
Volume, High Velocity Respiratory Support
- Healthy
techniques for producing “Rasp” or Grott
- “Whistle
Tones” (Flageolet)
Certification/Degree: Initially
inspired by artists such as Steve Perry, Rob Halford,
Bruce Dickinson and Geoff Tate;
Robert Lunte looked to find a voice teacher that
understood how to train the techniques required to
sing with hyper-extended range and power. The pursuit
led Robert to eventually meet the legendary Maestro
David P. Kyle of Seattle, WA. Maestro David Kyle taught
for over 25 years in New York, 4 years in San Francisco
and nearly 30 years in Seattle where he became the
preeminent private voice coach for rock and metal
singers of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Artists such as,
Geoff Tate from Queensryche, Ann Wilson from Heart
& Layne Staley from Alice in Chains have all studied
with Maestro David Kyle. At TVS, much inspiration
has come from Maestro Kyle’s studio; positive
mental imagery, training with amplification, developing
head registers and helping singers to bridge the Passagio
were all very unique at the time and continue to represent
cutting-edge voice pedagogy today. Robert Lunte is
the continuation of the Maestro’s legacy and
is working hard to take the technique to new levels
of understanding and execution.
Robert is a graduate of the University of Miami where
he trained with the talented artist and teacher, Dr.
David Alt. The Classical form and art songs are not
on the docket at TVS, yet several years of Classical
study under Dr. Alt’s coaching contributed to
Robert’s influence. Most importantly, work in
both genres has served to provide a healthy perspective
on the differences between modern techniques and the
Classical tradition.
After completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Industry
and Vocal performance, Robert moved to Seattle to
continue his study with Maestro David Kyle and pursue
work in performance and recording. Eventually discovering
a gift for teaching, in 1994, Robert founded The Vocalist
Studio™.
Today, Robert Lunte maintains a busy schedule at
The Vocalist Studio and is the founder and Director
of the TC-Helicon Voice Council and www.voicecouncil.com
. The TC-Helicon Voice Council is a team of top vocal
coaches in North America and Europe that contribute
to an association whose charter is to produce educational
content regarding voice technique and voice technology
for singers.
In addition, 10 years of teaching hundreds of singers
and remaining active in writing, recording and performing,
has made Robert one of the world’s recognized
leaders and innovators for modern voice pedagogy and
technique.

modern vocalists for 21st Century genre's. We understand
the need for singers to produce modern vocal sounds
such as rasp, male flageolet, bridging the Passagio,
Screams, etc...

Other comments: The Method:
TVS originated the method of training singers on
a live stage with professional PAs and mics. Our singers
use the tools of the trade and therefore, training
is much more relevant and practical than the traditional
voice lesson experience. We embrace the technology
and tools that enhance the vocalist’s performance
and learning experience. We are a boot camp that prepares
contemporary singers for what they need now in a way
that makes sense and is relevant for the singer’s
current writing, performing or recording endeavors.
The TVS method helps a singer to:
Train on leading pro audio gear donated by our Endorsers
and Sponsors.
Develop confidence and experience working on a live
performance stage.
Get more value because the method is more relevant
and more fun.
The “Virtual Lesson”:
TVS is bringing our technique to all corners of the
world by offering “virtual lessons” over
the internet. With a high-speed internet connection
and free video conferencing software, we can train
students from all over the world, in real-time. Transcending
geographic boundaries, a growing number of International
students regularly benefit from this innovative approach.
A system so rare and hard to find, is now available
to anyone with a computer and high-speed internet
connection!
The TVS System:
The Four Pillars of Screaming, the unique video tutorials
produced by TVS, are the best voice training workouts
in the world for the modern vocalist.
The TVS System is the “real deal”. Most
voice training programs simply offer a book and an
audio recording of scales that tell a student what
to do, but this falls short of really demonstrating
how to do it. Watch Master voice teacher and founder,
Robert Lunte, and top TVS singers demonstrate all
the workout scales on three hours of exciting and
entertaining DVD video. Each scale is demonstrated
two times, by two different singers and demonstrates
bridging through the Passagio (the break,) for over
4 octaves, in both directions. Leading by example,
the founder and practitioners of the technique are
performing the workouts they are teaching. Next to
actually having a private lesson in the studio, there
is no better way to communicate, teach and retain
a vocal training system. No training has ever covered
a vocal curriculum quite like “The Four Pillars
of Screaming!”
“The Four Pillars of Screaming!” consists
of a book, an audio CD of 11 workouts and two DVD
video tutorials with over 30 video demonstrations.
“The Four Pillars Of Screaming!”
Pillar I - Respiration:
The human singing voice is a wind instrument and
it takes air to play it. Proper air management is
key to supporting the singing voice. In order to support
modern vocal applications, the singer must move air
at high volumes and high velocities.
Pillar II - Vibration:
As a wind instrument, the “singing voice”
utilizes the vocal folds much like a reed instrument.
The modern vocalist needs to generate sound waves
so they can excite the resonators (open cavities of
the head), where overtones are produced.
Pillar III - Resonation:
The third Pillar is where the speaking voice and
singing voice transcend. Sound is processed into overtones
and the beauty of each individual voice comes to life.
Vocal timbre and range are largely facilitated by
transporting sound waves and registrating high velocity
respiration to the resonators.
Pillar IV - Visualization:
The singer’s inner voice and positive mental
imagery will directly impact the body’s response
to vocal commands. Great singing is closely related
to hearing the sound before you sing. The successful
management of positive mental imagery will reduce
distracting physical tension and mental “noise.”
How Soon Will I See Progress:
It is very common for a TVS student to experience
an exponential leap forward in range, power and quality
of sound in as little as 60-90 days. At TVS, we hold
a high value in accelerated learning; we capitalize
on your strengths and dive right into your weaknesses.
By doing so, we create an agenda that is the quickest
path to success for your individual voice. At TVS,
we know the best way to insure a lasting working relationship,
is to get the client what they need as soon as possible
and let the world hear it.
(Some artists that have studied the same technique
include; Geoff Tate from Queensryche, Ann Wilson from
Heart and Layne Staley from Alice In Chains). |
